When surgery is needed, We are the solution
Surgical Orthodontics is an option for treatment when the bite problem or skeletal discrepancy is so severe that orthodontic treatment is not enough to correct the problem, 0r when orthodontics alone would leave you with a compromised facial appearance. Orthognathic surgery, 0r 0rthodontic treatment in combina tion with jaw surgery, can be used.
Severe malocclusion, or a misaligned bite, can lead to functional challenges such as difficulty chewing, speech impediments, and facial discomfort, including headaches, joint pain, and gum issues. Additionally, jaw misalignment may impact self-esteem due to aesthetic concerns. Orthognathic surgery can also play a critical role in treating obstructive sleep apnea, providing significant health benefits.
Surgical orthodontics requires a collaborative effort that involves interdisciplinary planning with Dr. Hadra, your dentist, your oral and maxillofacial surgeon, and you. Once the treatment plan is established and approved, pre-surgical orthodontics will reposition your teeth to ensure they align correctly when the jaws are realigned during surgery. Because the teeth typically begin in a “compensated” position, you might notice that your bite feels worse during this phase of treatment. However, after the surgeon repositions your jaws into a balanced alignment, your teeth will fit together correctly.
Although surgery may provide the most effective functional and aesthetic outcomes, it remains an elective procedure. During your consultation, we will discuss alternative treatment options to help you make the best decision for your needs.
